What to expect
Your First Session
The initial session is generally focussed on getting to know you. We will explore what has brought you to therapy, your current concerns, and some background information (such as your personal history, health, and important life experiences). This helps build a shared understanding of your situation.
You are also welcome to ask questions - about how therapy works, my psychological approach or anything else that matters to you.
Therapy Structure
Sessions are 60 minutes, and are typically recommended to be weekly or fourtnightly. You will be invited to reflect on certain ideas, or practice strategies and skills in between sessions - this is a crucial part of the therapeutic process.
Depending on your needs, therapy may involve:
Talking through thoughts, emotions, behaviours and experiences.
Learning practical skills to adaptively manage challenges, such as emotional regulation or coping strategies.
Learning about yourself and your relationships patterns to increase understanding.
A Collaborative Process
Therapy is not something that is “done to you”; it is a collaborative process where we work together to achieve your theraputic goals.
There is no “right” way to do therapy - you can go at your own pace and address whatever feels the most important to you.
